Dana Mercer

Hello, I’m Dana.

I’m 52, living in the mountains of Asheville, North Carolina, in a cottage my husband and I have been slowly, lovingly transforming for the past decade. Our youngest left for college two years ago, and that empty nest was either going to feel like a loss โ€” or an invitation. I chose invitation.

Light & Linen started as a way to document what I was doing room by room: replacing every harsh overhead light, adding wall sconces at reading height, switching to warm-white bulbs, layering textures in linen and wool. What I didn’t expect was how many people felt the same pull toward a slower, softer, more intentional home.

I’m not an interior designer. I’m a home cook, a reader, a long-walk taker. I approach lighting the way I approach a good meal: patiently, with quality ingredients, and never in a rush. Every post here comes from something I’ve genuinely tried, questioned, or fallen in love with in this cottage.

Welcome. I hope something here makes your home feel a little more like yours.
